The School for the Deaf is the pioneer institution in Sri Lanka for hearing-impaired children that provides an all-encompassing education from Primary to GCE Ordinary Level and vocational training to equip children to be self-supporting citizens.

School History
පාසල් ඉතිහාසය
பள்ளி வரலாறு
The school was established in 1912 by Ms. Mary Chapman with the support and blessings of the Church of England Zennana Missionary Society. Together with Ms. Mase a trained teacher of the Deaf and Ms. Bauser a trained teacher of the Blind from England and Ms. Lilian Menage a trained nurse as the matron, the first School for the Deaf and Blind was started at a rented building in Dehiwela with one deaf child.
එංගලන්ත පල්ලියේ සෙන්නානා මිෂනාරි සංගමයේ සහයෝගය සහ ආශිර්වාදය ඇතිව මේරි චැප්මන් මහත්මිය විසින් 1912 දී මෙම පාසල ආරම්භ කරන ලදී. බිහිරි අයගේ පුහුණුව ලත් ගුරුවරියක වන මේස් මහත්මිය සහ එංගලන්තයේ අන්ධයන්ගේ පුහුණුව ලත් ගුරුවරියක වන බවුසර් මහත්මිය සහ පුහුණු හෙදියක් වන ලිලියන් මෙනගේ මහත්මිය පාලිකාව ලෙස එක්ව, බිහිරි සහ අන්ධයන් සඳහා වූ පළමු පාසල දෙහිවල කුලියට ගත් ගොඩනැගිල්ලක ආරම්භ කරන ලද අතර එක් බිහිරි දරුවෙකු ද එහි සිටියේය.
இந்தப் பள்ளி 1912 ஆம் ஆண்டு திருச்சபையின் இங்கிலாந்து ஜென்னானா மிஷனரி சங்கத்தின் ஆதரவு மற்றும் ஆசீர்வாதங்களுடன் திருமதி மேரி சாப்மேன் அவர்களால் நிறுவப்பட்டது. காது கேளாதோர் பயிற்சி பெற்ற ஆசிரியை திருமதி மேஸ் மற்றும் இங்கிலாந்தைச் சேர்ந்த பார்வையற்றோர் பயிற்சி பெற்ற ஆசிரியை திருமதி பாசர் மற்றும் பயிற்சி பெற்ற செவிலியரான திருமதி லிலியன் மெனேஜ் ஆகியோர் மேட்ரனாக இணைந்து, காது கேளாதோர் மற்றும் பார்வையற்றோருக்கான முதல் பள்ளி தெஹிவளையில் ஒரு காது கேளாத குழந்தையுடன் ஒரு வாடகை கட்டிடத்தில் தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

To educate and train the hearing-impaired children through trained and qualified teachers/ trainers using appropriate methods of lip reading, speech and sign language and technology, so they stand shoulder to shoulder with the rest of society and contribute to the well-being of society and themselves.
ශ්රවණාබාධිත දරුවන් පුහුණු හා සුදුසුකම් ලත් ගුරුවරුන් / පුහුණුකරුවන් හරහා තොල් කියවීම, කථනය සහ සංඥා භාෂාව සහ තාක්ෂණය යන සුදුසු ක්රම භාවිතා කරමින් අධ්යාපනය හා පුහුණුව ලබා දීම, එවිට ඔවුන් සමාජයේ සෙසු අය සමඟ උරෙන් උර ගැටී සමාජයේ සහ තමන්ගේ යහපැවැත්මට දායක වේ.
செவித்திறன் குறைபாடுள்ள குழந்தைகளுக்குப் பயிற்சி பெற்ற மற்றும் தகுதிவாய்ந்த ஆசிரியர்கள்/ பயிற்சியாளர்கள் மூலம் உதடுகளைப் படித்தல், பேச்சு மற்றும் சைகை மொழி மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பம் போன்ற பொருத்தமான முறைகளைப் பயன்படுத்தி கல்வி கற்பித்தல் மற்றும் பயிற்சி அளித்தல். இதன் மூலம் அவர்கள் சமூகத்தின் மற்றவர்களுடன் தோளோடு தோள் நின்று சமூகத்தின் மற்றும் தங்களின் நல்வாழ்வுக்கு பங்களிக்க முடியும்.

Facilities at the School
We follow a barrier free environment at Deaf School with easy access to classroom, dining hall, kitchen, passages and restrooms. We have our own buses for travelling with caretakers appointed for the safety of students.
