School History
පාසල් ඉතිහාසය
பள்ளி வரலாறு
The School was founded in 1912 by Miss Mary Chapman as part of the work carried out by the ZENNA Mission, Church of England, and has ensured free education and amenities to all visually impaired students ever since. The School is presently governed by the Diocese of Colombo, and managed by a Board of Trustees of the Ceylon Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, of which the Bishop of Colombo is the Chairperson.
මෙම පාසල 1912 දී මේරි චැප්මන් මෙනවිය විසින් ආරම්භ කරන ලද අතර, එංගලන්තයේ පල්ලියේ ZENNA දූත මණ්ඩලය විසින් සිදු කරන ලද කාර්යයේ කොටසක් ලෙස, එතැන් සිට සියලුම දෘශ්යාබාධිත සිසුන්ට නොමිලේ අධ්යාපනය සහ පහසුකම් සහතික කර ඇත. පාසල දැනට කොළඹ රදගුරු පදවිය මගින් පාලනය වන අතර, කොළඹ රදගුරුතුමා සභාපතිත්වය දරන ලංකා බිහිරි සහ අන්ධ පාසල්වල භාරකාර මණ්ඩලයක් විසින් කළමනාකරණය කරනු ලැබේ.
1912 ஆம் ஆண்டு மிஸ் மேரி சாப்மேன் என்பவரால் இந்த பள்ளி நிறுவப்பட்டது, இது ZENNA மிஷன், சர்ச் ஆஃப் இங்கிலாந்தின் பணியின் ஒரு பகுதியாகும், மேலும் பார்வையற்ற அனைத்து மாணவர்களுக்கும் இலவச கல்வி மற்றும் வசதிகளை உறுதி செய்துள்ளது. இப்பள்ளி தற்போது கொழும்பு மறைமாவட்டத்தால் நிர்வகிக்கப்படுகிறது, மேலும் கொழும்பு பிஷப் தலைவராக இருக்கும் இலங்கை காதுகேளாதோர் மற்றும் பார்வையற்றோருக்கான பள்ளிகளின் அறங்காவலர் குழுவால் நிர்வகிக்கப்படுகிறது.
The school works hard to provide similar opportunities made available at traditional education institutions, including access to the same academic curriculum and extra/co-curricular programmes. The School for the Blind prepares students for the Ordinary Level Exam each year, at which many pass! The more capable students are assisted to secure admission into traditional schools for their A/L’s, of which a healthy level continue on to University and successfully graduate. Additionally, we provide opportunities in vocational training, sports, clubs and societies and the performing arts with the aim of creating all-rounded individuals capable of contributing immensely to society.
එකම අධ්යයන විෂය මාලාවට ප්රවේශය ඇතුළුව සම්ප්රදායික අධ්යාපන ආයතනවල සමාන අවස්ථා ලබා දීමට පාසල වෙහෙස මහන්සි වී වැඩ කරයි. අන්ධ පාසල සෑම වසරකම සාමාන්ය පෙළ විභාගය සඳහා සිසුන් සූදානම් කරයි, එයින් බොහෝ දෙනෙක් සමත් වෙති! වඩාත් දක්ෂ සිසුන්ට ඔවුන්ගේ උසස් පෙළ සඳහා සාම්ප්රදායික පාසල්වලට ඇතුළත් කර ගැනීමට සහාය වන අතර, එයින් සෞඛ්ය සම්පන්න මට්ටමක් අඛණ්ඩව විශ්ව විද්යාලයට ගොස් සාර්ථකව උපාධිය ලබා ගනී. මීට අමතරව, සමාජයට ඉමහත් දායකත්වයක් සැපයිය හැකි සර්ව සම්පූර්ණ පුද්ගලයන් බිහිකිරීමේ අරමුණ ඇතිව වෘත්තීය පුහුණුව, ක්රීඩා, සමාජ ශාලා සහ සංගම් සහ රංග කලාවේ අවස්ථා අපි ලබා දෙන්නෙමු.
அதே கல்விப் பாடத்திட்டம் மற்றும் கூடுதல்/இணை பாடத்திட்டங்களுக்கான அணுகல் உட்பட, பாரம்பரிய கல்வி நிறுவனங்களில் கிடைக்கக்கூடிய அதே வாய்ப்புகளை வழங்க பள்ளி கடினமாக உழைக்கிறது. பார்வையற்றோருக்கான பள்ளி ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் சாதாரண தரப் பரீட்சைக்கு மாணவர்களைத் தயார்படுத்துகிறது, அதில் பலர் தேர்ச்சி பெறுகிறார்கள்! மிகவும் திறமையான மாணவர்கள் தங்கள் A/L க்காக பாரம்பரியப் பள்ளிகளில் சேர்க்கையைப் பெறுவதற்கு உதவுகிறார்கள், அதில் ஆரோக்கியமான நிலை பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் தொடர்கிறது மற்றும் வெற்றிகரமாக பட்டம் பெறுகிறது. கூடுதலாக, சமூகத்திற்கு மகத்தான பங்களிப்பை வழங்கக்கூடிய அனைத்துத் தகுதியுள்ள நபர்களை உருவாக்கும் நோக்கத்துடன் தொழில் பயிற்சி, விளையாட்டு, கிளப் மற்றும் சங்கங்கள் மற்றும் கலை நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் வாய்ப்புகளை வழங்குகிறோம்.

Facilities at the School
All students accepted to The School for the Blind have the added bonus of being able to reside in the school premises, completely Free-of-Charge.
Integrating into society is not an easy task. Therefore, our students are able to find their footing through Student Exchange Programmes that provide an opportunity to trial life outside the school, in a new yet safe environment provided by our partner schools.
Students are given the opportunity to try their hands at a variety of trainings including Candle Making, Radio Presenting, I.T., and Piano Tuning.

Resources and Services
As the blind and visually impaired students begin their formal lessons, a special emphasis is given towards learning Braille, their designated language of communication in terms of examinations.
Students are given lessons in effective mobility using various methods made available to them including the White Cane. Very soon, the students begin to navigate their new environments and move freely, gaining confidence to involve themselves in the life of the school.
Special after school programmes in Cricket, Swimming, Chess Scouting/Guiding, Debating, Drama, Singing, and Dancing are made available for all students. An Annual Sports Meet, specially designed for their needs, is also held.
