The Annual Carol Service of the Nuffield School for the Deaf and Blind Kaithadi, Jaffna was held on 16th November 2013 at Jubilee Hall. Rev. Fr. Justin Gnanapiragasam, Vicar General (V.G) of Jaffna Catholic Church graced the occasion and delivered the sermon. Rev. S. Jayanth Jeyaveerasingan, Archdeacon of Jaffna also graced the occasion.

The Carol service commenced with prayer by the Archdeacon of Jaffna Rev. Fr. Jayanth Jeyaveerasingan and the first Bible reading was done by both sight and hearing impaired children. All those who were present were attentive to the readings.

The items were presented by our teachers and children thereafter, as follows ;

A devotional song by teachers followed by the first reading taken from Ezra 9:6-7 read by a sight impaired student in Brail and a hearing impaired student in Sign Language. Thereafter a song was presented by the teachers and the second reading was from Luke 1:1-4 read by Mr.N.Kajendiran, Another song presented by teachers followed, and the third reading which was from Matthew 1: 18-25 was done by Mrs. M.P.Devakumar, Senior Assistant. Finally a song was presented by teachers and the hearing impaired children in sign language, and the final reading from John1 1:1-4 by the Principal Mr.V.S.Mahendiran.

The sermon was given by Rev.Fr.Justin Gnanapiragasam.

A group dance was presented by grade 01 hearing impaired little girls, nicely attired in colored sarees. An individual song presented by a sight impaired little girl Miss Geerthana of grade 01 followed to the beat of a drum by her class mate Mas. Thanusu. It was encouraging to witness the sight impaired child’s beautiful singing talent. This item was followed by a group dance by hearing impaired girls guided by teachers. Finally, there was a drama presented by upper school section hearing impaired boys and girls.

The service and events ended at 11.50 am with a devotional song and a prayer by Rev. Vasanthakumar.

The appreciation for the successful event is due to the teachers and organizer Mrs.M.P.Devakumar, who spent their time to make the carol service a success.
